Static vs Dynamic Stretching: Which Should You Do Before a Workout?

Stretching before exercise sounds simple, but not every type of stretching prepares your body in the same way. Holding a hamstring stretch for thirty seconds and performing controlled leg swings may both be called stretching. However, one mainly works on flexibility, while the other prepares your body to move. Quick answer: Dynamic stretching is usually the better choice before a workout. Static stretching is generally better after exercise or during a separate flexibility session. This does not mean static stretching is harmful or unnecessary.
